Do you remember the first time you saw a monster movie? Rory Skagen does.
This series of paintings, painted on sturdy back framed wooden panels with sign enamel, is Rory Skagen's reaction to life six years into the horrifying new millennium.
Inspired by Ray Harryhausen, Toho, Monster trading cards, and referencing toys and models of his youth, these five paintings represent the beginning of a very long, very inspired series.
Using both traditional brushes and airbrush, and coated with an oil based varnish, Rory employs layers of color and focus for hyper dramatic effect.
Rory considers these expressions of monster hyper-nostalgia with an eerie built in Deja Vu.
Secret: Rory is scared as hell of the crazy people in charge of this world and what they are doing, and the first monster movie he saw was, "The Blob" with Steve McQueen.
